Together in Mission

A Reflection From Cardinal Roger Mahony

Share your hope in the Lord. Pledge to Together in Mission.

“See the Bounty of the Lord”
-- Psalm 27:13

This year, we celebrate a Together in Mission milestone: 15 years of charity and unity.

We have conducted our Annual Appeal since 1993; and as Together in Mission grew marvelously and parishes surpassed goals, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles began awarding emergency grants and also returning rebates to parishes that surpassed their goals. Through subsidy or rebate or emergency grants, Together in Mission today showers more Southland Catholics than ever with the bounty of the Lord.

Here in California, we can witness the generosity of the Lord all around us—not only in the People of God, but in God’s creation. Early Christians used the fig as an icon of spiritual fruitfulness and good works. A befitting symbol for Together in Mission, the figs pictured below were photographed on an ancient tree at La Purisima Mission in Lompoc. These figs grow on a tree started from a seedling from the Santa Clara Mission. Figs were one of the fruits introduced to California by the padres ministering in our old missions.

Hundreds of years later, thousands of years since the Incarnation of Christ, the Church continues her mission. Your gift to Together in Mission helps continue our tradition of caring for and giving to Catholics within our own Archdiocese. Please consider the bounty of your life and pledge in a spirit of gratitude for all your God-given gifts. In return, I extend my personal gratitude and the thankfulness of countless California Catholics spiritually nourished by the fruits of Together in Mission.
