1. Moderator Jean Brown reviewed various informative papers with the Council.

√ Approval of minutes from Feb. 2nd.

√ Council members check updated address sheet for corrections.

√ Synod committee sheets – any corrections or additions.

√ Reminder of Finance Workshop on Sat., April 12th – help needed.

√ All term out members have agreed to a 3 year extension.

√ Need a replacement from Deanery 6; Bishop seeking appointed members.

2. Bishop Wilkerson presented his priorities and handouts:

√ All priests in this region, received a fax regarding two important websites (www.foryourmarriage.org and www.leginfo.cacatholic.org).

√ There was a reminder about the SFRPC members who will contact the parishes concerning the Post Baptismal program and the Finance Workshop on April 12th.

√ Proposed Outreach from Vocation Office - each parish would “adopt a seminarian” and support him with prayer. Also, there is a stole and chalice program parishes could participate in by contacting the vocation office.

√ Parishworld.net was an interesting website Bishop found at the RE Congress. It is an interesting website that provides parishes with a website that actively evangelize and catechize to their parish members. There is a possibility they will make a presentation at our June meeting.

√ Now that the Cardinal’s Finance presentation has finished, Bishop wanted to hear what feedback we might have received. Most members felt it was favorable that the Cardinal was sincere and honest. Many would like to see that kind of informative meeting to continue with the Cardinal’s participation.

√ Tidings report on each region – Dn. Richard will collect any ideas we might have to send to the Tidings on interesting items that should be covered in the San Fernando Region.

√ Bishop went over this year’s priorities - Evangelization, Catholic school enrollment and vocations. Pastors and principals were given a survey to fill out on what has worked and been successful for their schools. (Evangelization and vocations will be discussed during Synod reports)

3. Synod Committee Report:

√ Evangelization – They meet the 3rd Tuesday of the month and they have a new member, Tina. It is getting off to a good start. They discussed the Cardinal’s letter and the new programs on evangelization.

√ Structures – Finance Workshop April 12th at Notre Dame. Karen is asking for volunteers for set-up, environment, and greeters. Please sign up.

√ Ongoing Education – Lito Reyes explained the three Post Baptism Program packets. He explained what the packets contained – three different programs, and a script for when you present it to the parishes. The most important is you need a contact person from each parish. This contact person is a way we can make sure they are using this program.

√ Ministry and Leadership – Dn. Bob will contact Fr. Jim from the Vocation Office and ask if there is any more information he can give us for the stole and chalice program.

√ Eucharist and Sacramental Living - Parents and parishioners need to start at home to promote Sacramental living. Fernando and Exiquio are looking for a way to get more committee members from their parish who are involved with this ministry.

√ Social Justice – they are meeting soon. They will be evaluating their past activities and they are looking ahead to the presidential campaign. Bishop again reminded us that the parishes can not be promoting any group gathering signatures for petitions to be put on the ballot. Once something is on the ballot, and the California Bishops endorse it, then parishes can endorse them.

Archdiocesan Pastoral Council Report: The five regions could share with each other as to what each one has done. Also, looking at an internal communication within these regions.

Special report from Tim Donahoe:

Each parish could adopt a soldier/soldiers to pray for daily. Let those soldiers know that their parishes are thinking of them and supporting them spiritually. Ideas were: making a poster board with photos of soldiers, writing letters, sending care packages, etc. These are just suggestions. Many parishes are doing something. It would be nice if all the parishes had something ongoing so as not to forget them.

Next meeting is June 21, 2008. We will have elections. Meeting adjourned at 11:15 AM.
